Harry Whittington hopes history will repeat itself after Charlemar made a winning British debut for the Sparsholt-based trainer when landing the 2m maiden hurdle with Gavin Sheehan in the saddle.

Results and analysis

Whittington said: “I went over to ride Charlemar before we bought him and I thought he was very good as he travelled so well before picking up with ease as if he’s got plenty of gears.
