It would be easy to say Gordon Lord Byron was rolling back the years in landing the Group 2 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes, but it would be more accurate to say this remarkable nine-year-old continues to defy father time.

In testing conditions for man and beast, he showed just how much appetite he had left for the game as he battled on strongly from the front to deny younger rivals under Chris Hayes, and in the process recorded his tenth win in stakes company and 16th victory overall.

It was an emotional victory for trainer Tom Hogan and part-owner Morgan Cahalan, as Hogan had been bullish during the week that his stable star was in the same sort of form as when winning twice last summer.
