David Parkes ended a barren spell of 509 days and 77 rides without a winner as he landed the 1m4f handicap on Fandango by a comfortable four and a half lengths.

The 5lb claimer stalked the duelling leaders on the unexposed three-year-old before quickly making up ground on the run to the two-furlong marker to challenge. Staying on all the way to the line, Fandango ultimately hacked up from even-money favourite Alsacienne.

Parkes said: "It's great to get one on the board. I shattered my femur on May 12 and I was off for exactly a year. I've had about 45 rides since, but this is my first winner back.
