Owner Jane Southall enjoyed her first victory in ten years and will ensure her winnings are spent wisely, as she plans to donate the £3,500 to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).

The Chris Gordon-trained Stanley Pincombe was recording a first victory in the 2m amateurs' handicap hurdle, getting the better of the 11-10 favourite Pilsdon Pen under Freddie Gordon.

Southall, who had 33 runners without success since the 2011-12 season, said: “He’s a lovely horse. He didn’t enjoy it at Lingfield last time as it was a bit of a slog, but he jumps well and Fred made it look so simple and straightforward today.

“I’m planning on donating my prize-money today to the International Fund for Animal Welfare. There are over 300 horses at the Kyiv trotting track, 200 riding horses and 150 thoroughbred trotting horses who only have three or four weeks of hay left and the winters there are hard.

“If I can do anything by putting my few quid in the pot and a few of the big buccaneers at Cheltenham next week can dig deep, it'll really help.”

100 not out

Nicky Henderson hit a century for the season after the success of Hyland in the 2m5f handicap hurdle.

He will head to the Cheltenham Festival in better form, with this three-and-three-quarter length success following a Saturday double at Sandown and Hereford.
