Our experts discuss the Gold Cup prospects of Lostintranslation and Topofthegame
This was an impressive performance from Lostintranslation and I always felt he would improve when stepped up in trip. Topofthegame was clearly not at the top of his game, but I'd still have him as the more likely Gold Cup candidate going forward. He was never travelling with his usual zest and I suspect the RSA Chase win, which was a top-class effort, took quite a lot out of him. People will probably latch onto Lostintranslation as the better Gold Cup prospect after this but I'd rather have Topofthegame on my side, provided he is given adequate time to get over his races. I suspect Paul Nicholls will campaign him with that in mind next season.
Robbie Wilders, reporter
Both horses are now big Gold Cup contenders. Lostintranslation still had to prove his stamina for three miles before the Mildmay, but that he did in no uncertain terms, coasting to victory, and he is a real King George contender. What a race Kempton's showpiece contest could prove to be, with possibly Altior, Cyrname and Kemboy locking horns with Colin Tizzard's star, and don't forget Topofthegame, who ran flat here following his RSA Chase victory last month. He remains a major candidate for the Gold Cup, and stamina won't be an issue for him at Cheltenham, but Lostintranslation, who was winning over three miles and a furlong here, would also have every chance of getting the trip.
