Oscar proves a winner but Alary crashes out of Gold Cup picture

It proved to be the tale of two horses for Colin Tizzard as he expressed himself pleased after Finian’s Oscar passed his final test before Cheltenham, while one-time Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Alary hit the deck ending any festival aspirations.

Finian’s Oscar retained his place at the head of the betting for the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle when landing odds of 1-16 in the 2m1f Listed novice hurdle, but Tizzard stressed no decision had been made as to where the five-year-old might run as he also has the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle as an option.

The trainer said: “There wasn't a lot to be gleaned from that as all the others were frightened off by him. It hasn't really told us anything we didn't already know.
