It was a day dominated by Melbourne 10, every winner they had was greeted with fairly raucous cheers, but there was still room for the small man to strike at Laytown.

The Westerners Syndicate raised the proverbial roof when their well-backed charge Cyrus Dallin proved too good in the 7f claimer under trainer-rider Denis Hogan.

In terms of quality, it was easily the weakest contest of the day, but for the Mayo men who own this son of Roderic O'Connor, his length-and-a-half defeat of the Melbourne 10's Pulsating must have been like winning an All-Ireland.
