It has been a good few days for apprentice Ger O'Neill, 19, for he rode the fourth winner of his career – the third coming at Pontefract last Sunday – when partnering Mysterial to win the 1m2f handicap for his boss Declan Carroll.

There was no danger of him being in trouble for overuse of his whip because it flew out of his hand with a furlong to run, but he drove his mount out with hands and heels to score by a length and a quarter.
