Oliver's Hill conjures memories of Sombrero Whitbread victory

Those of a certain age will have recognised the blue and brown colours worn by Nick Scholfield on Oliver's Hill, the winner of the Josh Gifford Memorial Trophy.

They were carried to Whitbread Gold Cup success in 1972 by popular chaser Grey Sombrero owned by Frank Caudwell, who died four years ago but whose widow Doreen was watching at home.

Winning trainer Lawney Hill said: "They both trained themselves and have had horses for years.
