Oliver Greenall's great season hits another high with shock 33-1 winner
Oliver Greenall had reasons to raise a celebratory glass after surpassing his previous seasonal-best tally at the weekend and more celebrations are in store for the up-and-coming trainer after he saddled his 20th winner of the season with A Large One Please.
Greenall's previous best tally was 18 but after passing that number with two winners on Sunday, the Cheshire-based trainer hit another notable number for the first time after the five-year-old caused a 33-1 shock in the 2m3½f novice hurdle.
"I'm not quite sure why he was at such a big price, we were there to win," the trainer said. "He probably got to the front a bit too soon and got a bit tired. We'll take our time with him and he won't run that many times this season. He's a staying chaser in the making."
On his career-best season, Greenall added: "It's fantastic, but we have to kick on again. We'd like 30 winners and a good horse. We lack that top-class horse, it's something we are striving for and this lad could be just that."
Greenall did not have to wait long for his 21st winner after landing the concluding race at Wincanton with First Man for an across-the-card double.
Hogan has first winner since retirement comeback
Irish trainer-jockey Denis Hogan had seemingly retired from the saddle at the Galway festival earlier in the summer but after making his return at Ayr on Monday, he was back in the winner's enclosure on his second ride since returning when Paddy The Wire landed the concluding bumper.
Kennedy earns his keep
Will Kennedy had to be at his determined best in the saddle with a power-packed victorious ride on Discko Des Plages in the 2m3f novice handicap chase after dropping his whip in the back straight.
