Willie Mullins won his third Savills Chase after Kemboy kept finding for David Mullins on the long punishing climb to the line, denying the admirable effort of stablemate Melon to repeat his 2018 victory in the race.
That would have been the opening paragraph in any other year, but 2020 continues to defy any logic whatsoever. It seems to have a surplus of curve balls so just after 2.25pm on a misty Monday afternoon at Leopardstown it pegged another one at us. If you saw this one coming, fair play to you.
A Plus Tard, trying three miles for only the second time, outstayed everything to get up in the final few strides after hitting a high of 209-1 in running. Darragh O'Keeffe had never ridden in a Grade 1 before, never mind won one, but he got there, much to the exasperation of some greedy so and sos on Betfair who tried to nick a few quid on Kemboy at 1.01. There was £8,123 matched at the minimum price.
