O'Grady cashes in with money-spinning Point back over hurdles

Local trainer Eoghan O'Grady had already enjoyed a good week following the victory of Mick The Jiver in the novice chase final at Navan on Sunday, but it was made even better when his main money-spinner Westerner Point reverted to hurdles without fuss in the 3m handicap.

Regular rider Philip Enright was never troubled as the 6-4 favourite, successful over fences at Thurles four weeks earlier, picked up well from the second-last and was always holding topweight Captainofthefleet to the line.

Indeed, off a hurdles mark 29lb lower than his chase rating, one would have expected him to do so. It does not always work out that way, though, and with a horse less straightforward it may not have.
