Television personality Jeremy Kyle’s first love is the jumps but he branched out to the Flat yesterday by sponsoring a race - and he brought a rowdy bunch with him to mark the occasion.

The presenter, who is involved in ownership with champion trainer Paul Nicholls, lent his name to the 1m6f handicap, won in slick style by the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Yangtze, and combined business with pleasure as he hosted 50 members of The Jeremy Kyle Show’s production crew at the course.

“The show is filmed at Media City in Salford and I thought I’d bring the staff for a day out at a local track,” Kyle said as whistles and cheers reverberated around the paddock. “There’s been plenty of drinking but they work hard and are having fun.”
