No woe for The Very Man as Thursday return beckons for in-form hurdler

The Very Man has taken his time to master the art of hurdling but is making up for lost time and an emphatic triumph in the opening jump race of the 2020 Galway festival could yet precede a quick reappearance on Thursday.

Gordon Elliott's charge scored easily under Davy Russell in the Listed two-mile contest after being sent off the 11-8 market leader, having won twice before lockdown in March. He returned with a narrow Roscommon victory earlier this month, and the gelding could be pitched into Thursday's Guinness Novice Hurdle over an extra half a mile.

Elliott was at the sales in Doncaster, but assistant Ian 'Busty' Amond suggested serious consideration would be given to turning The Very Man out quickly.
