No joy for veteran Mosse as Zero becomes hero for Beckett
Globetrotting veteran rider Gerald Mosse's first visit to the Wiltshire course as retained jockey to the newly formed Phoenix Thoroughbreds did not end happily as his mount, the heavily supported Gotti, was withdrawn at the start of the 5f novice contest after rearing up in the stalls.
The race went the way of the Ralph Beckett-trained debutant Nine Below Zero and his rider Shane Kelly said: "He travelled well into the race and I was confident from the cut-away in the rails two furlongs out that we might win. Not many of Ralph's win first time out, so he might pretty good."
There is no stopping trainer Clive Cox at present and he sent out another winner after Crafty Madam took the 6f maiden on her second start with Luke Morris in the saddle. The daughter of Mastercraftsman saw off the attentions of Cobalty Isle in the closing stages for a head verdict.
