The racing is about to start and people are still having their makeup done – welcome to ladies' day at the May meeting.

We're not talking about the ITV Racing team getting a quick brush up in between ad breaks but racegoers at the opposite side of the paddock area, taking advantage of the range of services on offer at the Revamp boutique, a handy hut for those in need of an emergency makeover.

On the face of it, why people have come to such a prestigious occasion on the social calendar with finishing touches still to make is a curiosity; it's like Aidan O'Brien bringing one of his regally bred Classic colts to the afternoon's Chester Vase a gallop or two short.
