It may not have been the landmark many were hoping to see, but Luke Morris bettered his haul of 2016 when coming from last to first on Music Major in the 1m2f handicap.

Punters obviously wanted to give Silvestre de Sousa a send off on his last domestic day of action for a fortnight – he is going on holiday – when backing the champion jockey's mount Pink Ribbon into 4-1 (from 12), but he had to settle for second behind the Michael Attwater-trained winner.

Morris said: "That's 160 for the year for me, which is one more than I got last year. I had set out to beat my best tally of 189 but I won't manage that."
