With seven runners spread across two meetings but nothing to show from the first five, it was in Warren Greatrex's own words proving to be a 'day from hell'. But that changed when The Nipper bolted up in the mares' novice hurdle.

Admittedly she had just two opponents, only one of which had a serious chance and she was sent off at 4-9, but she won without coming off the bridle, Gavin Sheehan never having to move a muscle as he powered clear to beat previous dual winner Elusive Theatre by nine lengths despite a mistake at the last.

Her trainer said: "It had been one of those days when little had gone right. Leighton (Aspell) came off Missed Approach, who was 6-4 favourite, at the first at Chepstow and then Out Sam was badly hampered at the first and lost all chance in the Eider here. At least I've had a winner now.
