Nightflower blooms at Cologne again

Nightflower won the Group 1 Preis von Europa for the second year running at Cologne yesterday after a brilliantly timed ride from Andrasch Starke took her to the front in the final 100 yards.

British raider Elite Army was among those left trailing in her wake, the Godolphin horse keeping on at one pace to finish sixth.

Kasalla led at the distance, with the ex-David Simcock Red Cardinal challenging strongly, but Starke brought Nightflower to the wide outside and she quickened smartly to lead in the final stages, with Red Cardinal just holding Kasalla for second.
