Nigel Twiston-Davies back in top spot with two winners from three runners

Once upon a time Nigel Twiston-Davies was the dominant trainer at this northern outpost of jump racing. Although he has remained a regular supplier of runners, particularly at this festival meeting, in recent years he has faced some stiff competition for the position of top dog from a certain Gordon Elliott.

With Elliott otherwise engaged this week, Twiston-Davies was back on top winning with two of his three runners, notably Calett Mad who completed a fine season over hurdles by winning his fourth race in the Listed 3m novice contest in the colours of Simon Munir and Isaac Souede.

Sent off at 8-11 against just two rivals, he didn't travel or jump that well in the early stages but as his rivals began to tire Calett Mad cruised through to score an easy 31-length success.
