Nick Bradley chasing record year after Trabajo Detecho strikes for syndicate
Sunday: Newcastle
Nick Bradley forecast another record year for his syndicate business after it kept up its flying start to 2023 by scoring with Trabajo Detecho.
The 15-8 favourite's win in the three-year-old 6f handicap took the organisation, which was launched in 2015, into double-figures already this season.
"That's our tenth winner of the year from 20 runners. We're miles clear of Godophin, so we're delighted!" Bradley joked.
"We have 30 two-year-olds, about 30 three-year-olds and by the time the breeze-ups are finished we'll have 80 or 90 horses, which will be a record. We had 48 winners last year and earned £1.2million. That was our best year so far, but this year will be better."
Trabajo Detecho could yet add more to the tally after making all to score by a length and a half under Jason Hart.
Bradley said: "He's a big horse we bought from the breeze-ups. He kept on growing and we didn't put him in the sales because we thought the best was still to come.
"He hasn't beaten much there but we still think there will be more improvement. He has a couple of entries back at Newcastle this week and he may take one of those up.
"I thought he'd want seven furlongs but there was a tailwind and Jason got the fractions right."
Virtue signals success
This was an extra fixture, programmed on Thursday due to the current spate of abandonments, and Rebecca Menzies was quick to take advantage with recent dual hurdles winner Russian Virtue.
The six-year-old had scored on the 22nd attempt on the Flat by taking the 1m2f handicap under PJ McDonald, who also won the 1m4½f handicap on Golden Vintage.
Menzies said: "They put this extra meeting on and he's been a bit unlucky for us on the Flat, being placed plenty of times.
"So while the weather is not great for going hurdling we thought we'd give him a spin on the Flat and it's great that he's won a third race in a row.
"I hope he'll be one for the two-mile hurdle at the Northern Lights finals at Musselburgh. We may run him at Sedgefield on Sunday and get him qualified."
