Nicholls has Welsh National in mind for Truckers Lodge after smart performance

The promising Truckers Lodge booked his spot in the Coral Welsh National with an authoritative victory in the 2m7½f beginners' chase at Chepstow.

Paul Nicholls often says his horses come on for a first run of the season and that was evidenced by the seven-year-old, who was beaten 30 lengths on his seasonal reappearance over course and distance this month.

"I'm very pleased with him," Nicholls said. "He had that first run to sharpen him up and even last year it took him a couple of runs to warm up. He's stayed on strongly and won it well."
