Richard Hobson's first runner at the Cumbrian track proved a winner when Going Gold broke a frustrating sequence in the opening 2m3½f novices' hurdle.

The Stow-on-the-Wold trainer delayed sending his runner up the M6 until Saturday morning rather than tackle the holiday traffic hordes on Good Friday and it paid off in spades.

James Bowen, who was also a first-timer at the course, moved on to 49 winners for the season and was not troubled in putting the six-year-old in front where it mattered to justify strong support into 11-8 (from 2).
