Never say never - first win after 42 attempts for Lynn Siddall's rank outsider

Always keep the faith – that's the message of a long-awaited victory for the aptly named First Of Never.

The extraordinarily patient bunch in the syndicate who own the 13-year-old certainly stayed loyal, and some of them were rewarded with 50-1 for their money.

That would not have seemed a particularly generous price before the 2m handicap hurdle, given that their horse had run 42 times without success in bumpers, on the Flat and over hurdles since 2012 – and was 6lb out of the handicap.
