Despite trainer Noel Meade having doubts about how resolute he is over fences, De Name Escapes Me added another big prize to the Brown Lad Handicap Hurdle he had snared at Naas last month when running out the victor in the Grade B Foxrock Handicap Chase

He was 23lb well in here on his hurdles mark and under Slippers Madden made no mistake. The jockey did not even have to resort to the whip on the long run from what would normally have been the second-last, the last being omitted due to damage to the fence, and the eventual half-length margin of victory over Solomn Grundy did little justice to his superiority.

"The last fence being out of it suited him," Meade said. "He ran too free here last time and the fences were always going to slow him down. His biggest problem is that he's not brave at his fences, he's fairly cowardly at them actually!
