In a race originally known as the Tradesmen's Cup, Oisin Murphy showed the benefit of serving the ultimate apprenticeship when linking up with his old mentor Andrew Balding on Montaly.

The jockey was schooled in the famed Kingsclere academy and has used that grounding as a launchpad to the position of number-one rider for Sheikh Fahad's Qatar Racing operation.

Encountering the cauldron atmosphere of the 188Bet Chester Cup on the bowl-shaped mile-long track against 16 rivals, Murphy proved equipped for the challenge on just his second experience of the unique contest.
