Red-hot Olly Murphy added to his already enviable strike-rate since starting out as a trainer earlier this month after Banff landed odds of 8-11 under Jamie Spencer in the 2m½f handicap.

The four-year-old was always nicely placed and looked like winning cosily up the straight, but he had to be driven right out in the closing stages to see off the attentions of Byronegetonefree.

Murphy, who spent a number of years as assistant to Gordon Elliott, said: "I think Banff is genuine, but he can be a bit lazy and race behind the bridle, which made it more difficult for Jamie.
