Mud-lovers make most of testing Kerry terrain

The Guinness Kerry National on Wednesday was the race Kylecrue was being aimed at. However, he failed to get into the race, missing out by one to make the field.

"I thought he'd have nearly won the Kerry National but we've got some compensation now," trainer John Ryan said after the nine-year-old had landed the 2m4f Southampton Goodwill Chase by four lengths under Danny Mullins.

Kylecrue was bringing his winning tally to ten having won over the course and distance on Sunday. The winner's stablemate Draycott Place was in second place and looking a threat to the winner when he blundered and parted company with Donagh Meyler two out. Meyler was taken to hospital for x-rays on a suspected hairline fracture to his right shin.
