Mr Mafia hits bookmakers in the pocket as Keighley plan comes to fruition

A plan hatched between former jockey Warren Marston and trainer Martin Keighley paid dividends as Mr Mafia landed a gamble (4-1 from 10-1) when coming clear in the 2m6f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle.

Keighley said: “It was actually Warren who found out the horse was for sale earlier this year and suggested we bought him out of Tony Carroll’s yard. Warren has been proved spot on, even though it hurts a bit to say that.

“We've had him ready to run for a few weeks but decided to wait for this race as, being a boys' race, there's no penalty. We've almost two weeks before his new handicap mark can kick in so the plan will be to run again fairly quickly.”
