The best that Britain and Ireland had to offer from Royal Ascot went to France for the Prix Morny and found a formidable home defence waiting for them in the shape of Earthlight.

Andre Fabre last won the race in 1992 with subsequent 2,000 Guineas hero Zafonic, and the trainer was quick to nominate the Newmarket Classic for Earthlight next season.

British racegoers may get a chance to see the winner before then, with the Dewhurst an option. A 25-1 shot for the Guineas before winning the Morny, Earthlight is now a top price of 12-1, and I think there is some meat left on the bone at those odds.
