Moffatt counts his blessings as Captain brings up hat-trick

Jimmy Moffatt will take one of his string to be blessed at the nearby Priory this morning but he required no divine intervention on Saturday as he claimed the totepool Cartmel Cup for the third year in a row.

The trainer, whose yard is on the opposite side of the village, could not split his three runners beforehand and it was a close call as Captain Brown scythed down stablemate Fantasy King to follow up last year's success in the 2m1f hurdle.

“I couldn’t put a cigarette paper between the three of them at home and I’ve been riding Smart Ruler [who finished fifth] so I’ll have to hang up my hat,” said Moffatt.
