Towards the close of an underwhelming season in Europe, Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Suroor finally had reason to celebrate when Sky Hunter delivered his 2,000th worldwide winner at Goodwood yesterday.

The former Dubai policeman who was handed custody of Sheikh Mohammed's elite team in 1994 has trained 12 British Classic winners, including the Derby, three Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winners and three Breeders' Cup winners out of 178 Group 1 winners.

"It was a great moment," said the 47-year-old trainer. "We've had a great team with brilliant jockeys like Frankie Dettori for 18 years and now we see William Buick ride the 2,000th winner on Sky Hunter.
