Menzies milestone as Major Snugfit eventually pulls rank on his rivals
Thursday: Sedgefield
Rebecca Menzies celebrated another milestone at her local jumps track when saddling her 200th winner.
Major Snugfit travelled the three miles north from Menzies' stables at Howe Hills farm and overcame an initial reluctance to race with success in the first division of the 2m1f handicap hurdle.
Menzies previously brought up her century of winners at the County Durham track and reached the double century with the five-year-old, who won by two and a half lengths despite idling in the final stages under Nathan Moscrop.
"Our 100th winner here doesn't feel like it was that long ago. To reach this feat is really special," Menzies said.
"We've got a really good team and better quality in the yard, and have had our best ever Flat season. It's all going in the right direction and is really exciting."
Menzies could have been made to wait longer for her achievement after Major Snugfit proved a handful going to post, which resulted in her having to encourage him to head down the track.
She added: "He's just a character in general, but he was a bit naughtier than usual today. We blew the start with him coming out the parade ring as usually he comes out early, but we missed that break a bit and he jammed on the brakes right in front of the stands."
Galligan glory
Conditional jockey Mark Galligan rode his first winner for Nicky Richards on only his second ride for the Penrith trainer when he steered 33-1 outsider Wilhelm Vonvenster to success in the second division of the 2m1f handicap hurdle.
