McManus' outsider-of-eight Auvergnat routs rivals for jubilant Bolger
JP McManus had eight runners in the Paddy Power Chase and won it with the biggest priced of the lot, unconsidered 28-1 shot Auvergnat, who had finished 11th and 15th on his previous two starts, who tore his rivals apart. Make sense of that.
What's more, ownermate Fitzhenry, who completed a 1-3 for McManus, was 25-1 and the second biggest price of his battalion. Any Second Now, the subject of a massive plunge into 5-1 favourite just before the off, could finish only fifth. It's a funny old game.
For Enda Bolger it was a quick tonic after stable star Ballyoisin bombed out earlier on the card, but he was quick to deflect the praise onto 24-year-old jockey Donie McInerney, last season's champion conditional.
