Master Malcolm proved that his first win was no fluke by making it back-to-back victories, bringing up a career-best season for trainer Emma-Jane Bishop.

The five-year-old was pushed along at the back at halfway but finished with a flourish under Harrison Beswick to pick up the long-time leader Call Off The Dogs.

Bishop said: "We keep forgetting that he is only five because he's huge. He can certainly jump and Harrison knows him so well now.

"He obviously likes coming from off the pace and getting into a battle. He got his head in front, but it didn't look likely for a while.

"I'd be lost without Master Malcolm and Max Dynamo at the minute."

The Gloucestershire-based trainer added: "We've moved to Cleeve Hill and it's a work in progress, but the horses seem very happy. The new gallop up there seems to be working well and we've got the luxury of using Cleeve Common as well."

Looking forward, Bishop added: "We just need to build on this now, the door is open!"

Due a winner

Freddie Mitchell rode his first winner for 2,074 days aboard the Gary Moore-trained Black Gerry in the 2m3½f handicap chase. The amateur spent a couple of years riding abroad and has had injuries, but he made all on the seven-year-old here to justify favouritism in the opener.

It was a double for the trainer on the day as Moore's Royaume Uni took the feature 2m3f handicap hurdle under son Josh.

Mitchell also worked for Jamie Snowden as his assistant for two years, and his former boss also had a winner on the card when Legends Ryde took the 3m2f mares' novice handicap chase.
