Martin's investment pays off as Red jumps into contention for big prize

The runaway win of Definitly Red in the BetBright Grimthorpe Chase gives owner Phil Martin a live contender for the Randox Health Grand National but he admits he is not the Aintree race's biggest advocate.

He said: "I wanted to enter him in the Gold Cup, but Brian [Ellison] said he wouldn't be quite up to that this season, so we put him in the National.

"I'm not the greatest fan of the race, but he'll probably be rated around 160 now and he ran off 149 today, and so with no penalty he'll never have a better chance.
