Marquand overcomes trouble as Pink Crystal hits the target in Bullet

Pink Crystal ran out an impressive winner in the Brighton Bullet, the feature handicap on the final day of the track's three-day festival, coming home strongly under Tom Marquand after a tricky passage to win by a neck.

Philip Robinson, racing manager to owner Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoom, said: "We’re delighted with the win, she probably found herself a bit far back but she’s come home nicely and will push on from there.”

Speaking to Sky Sports Racing, Marquand was similarly impressed with the 7-4 favourite and said: "Coming into the first turn can be tough and she took a furlong or so to find her feet, but I was always confident I was going to find a bit of room somewhere and she picked up well when I asked her to.”

McEntee respite

Porfin provided a much-needed boost to Phil McEntee with victory in the opening 6f handicap under the trainer's daughter Grace.

Phil McEntee said: “My horses have been bad all week so I was a bit edgy about it. I spent the whole morning coming down in the car with Grace ringing my owners saying my horses are wrong, you can’t back this horse. He duly went and won so there you go.”

Quick turnaround

Tony Carroll's love of the seaside course continued when Temur Khan backed up his win at the track just 48 hours earlier.

The seven-year-old provided the trainer with a fourth winner of the festival in the 1m4f classified stakes, two days after winning a seller over the same course and distance.
