Manuela De Vega earns Oaks quote after Silver Tankard success
Sisters over misters proved the way forward in the feature ebf-sponsored Silver Tankard Stakes as the Ralph Beckett-trained Manuela De Vega defeated the colts and a fellow filly to emulate her sibling Isabel De Urbina in winning a Listed contest at Pontefract this year.
Stamina appears a valuable attribute for the daughter of Lope De Vega, owned by Waverley Racing, who justified strong market support into 10-11 favourite (from 5-2) by pulling clear of Three Comets to win by two and three-quarter lengths.
Group 3 scorer D'Bai and Derby day handicap victor Connect are on the recent honour roll of the £40,000 contest and winning jockey Harry Bentley was impressed by Manuela De Vega, as were Paddy Power, introducing the unbeaten filly into their Investec Oaks market at 33-1.
