Manchester City fan Michael Bell is an apt trainer for City-loving syndicate Middleham Park Racing and the pair found the net when Joe’s Spirit scored at the second time of asking in the opening 6f novice median auction contest.

Despite not being drawn the best in stall ten, experience won the day for the son of Swiss Spirit, who held off Tangled, who came from stall 11, after a duel up the straight.

Franny Norton did the steering on the winner but gave up his final two mounts due to a wrist injury.
