The 'for sale' sign went up after Macksville landed a first win over hurdles in the 2m3½f handicap but winning trainer James Eustace has not given up on the prospect of training the five-year-old after his date with the sale ring.

Despite only one previous win on the all-weather, Macksville has plenty more to offer as a hurdler, according to his trainer, who made no bones about the fact he would be sad to see him walk out of his Newmarket yard for good.

“Hopefully, for the present owners, he will make some money but, if anyone out there wants to buy him and send him back to me, I think there’s plenty more to come,” said Eustace, who does well with his select team of jumpers.
