Mabs Cross on the up with four-timer as speedy Thesme bows out

Mabs Cross completed a four-timer in spectacular fashion, coming from last to first under Paul Mulrennan to land the feature Listed 5f sprint for fillies, transferred from Ayr’s lost Western meeting last month.

Having started her winning sequence in a maiden at Newcastle in May, the Michael Dods-trained three-year-old had been progressive with handicap wins at Windsor and Haydock, and could be destined for even bigger things after securing black type at the first time of asking.

Down the field, there was no fairytale ending for five-year-old Thesme, who faded to finish last after cutting out the early running and now looks set for a career at stud according to trainer Nigel Tinkler.
