Just where are all the horses? Following a host of cancelled meetings due to the adverse weather you might have expected big fields aplenty, particularly with the better ground and decent prize-money provided by Ludlow.

However, it was not to be as the seven-race card offering £80,000 attracted 51 declarations, with the £16,000 novice chase contested by just three runners.

Although there was no shortage of drama as 1-20 favourite Tree Of Liberty became one of the shortest-priced favourites ever beaten on a British racecourse when felled by 20-1 shot Cap'N, it left general manager Bob Davies to wonder what more could be done.
