Luck smiles on Ellison as Kylie avoids the carnage
Brian Ellison didn't enjoy the best of luck with his three challengers in Tuesday evening's Colm Quinn BMW Mile, but he was quick to acknowledge that there was at least a little bit of good fortune on his side as Our Kylie, under Danny Mullins, landed an incident-packed mares' handicap hurdle.
It was a race marred by a trio of nasty incidents, the fall of the Robbie Power-ridden Flaviana early in the contest being the nastiest as the unfortunate rider was sent to hospital with what Turf Club medical officer Adrian McGoldrick described as a suspected fracture of the mandible part of his jawbone.
There were two further incidents of a faller bringing down one of her rivals, the last of which involved Davy Russell's mount Crystal Pearl apparently clipping heels when trying to find racing room before the home turn and bringing down The Conker Club. Russell stood himself down from his intended ride on First Lieutenant in the Galway Plate as a consequence.
