Graham Lee was hoping to put a frustrating time behind him after making a successful return from five weeks on the sidelines on Hereawi in the 1m6½f handicap.

Having been laid low with a virus, the jockey was back in action for the first time since riding at Epsom on Derby day and he showed no ring-rustiness with a well-judged all-the-way victory on the Ralph Beckett-trained filly.

“It’s happy days and touch wood the fitness is good and I’ll bash on from here and see what happens,“ said Lee, who last year added the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot to a big-race CV that includes the 2004 Grand National.
