There was a party atmosphere at Laytown on Thursday – and not only because the Melbourne 10 Racing syndicate were in town.

Laytown is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and those making their first trip must have been left wondering whether the place has changed at all since racing on the beach began in 1868.

Walking through the gates at Laytown is like stepping back in time and Dessie Scahill, occupying the role of ring announcer, is better placed than most when it comes to commenting on what makes it the spectacle it is.
