Lartigue drama as stewards promote Gold Seal
It's usually fitting when the feature race of the day provides the majority of the drama, but it was an unfortunate end to the Liam Healy Memorial Lartigue Handicap Hurdle which saw the Joseph O'Brien-trained Gold Seal get the race in the stewards' room after the disqualification of Kuiper Belt, who was demoted to second.
In no sense was Kuiper Belt unfortunate to be thrown out as a manoeuvre made by rider Denis O'Regan between the last two flights caused Gold Seal, under young claimer Evan Daly, to be badly squeezed up, and as the margin between them was a diminishing short head, there was an air of inevitability about placings being reversed.
The misfortune was him losing a race named in honour of the late Liam Healy, as Kuiper Belt is trained by Gordon Elliott, a close friend of Liam Healy jnr, and was led up by Liam jnr's teenage son and late Liam's grandson Sean.
