Landmark day as stable legend Uno Mas gives Collier his first win
Uno Mas is becoming something of a legend for the Christian Williams stable and he was part of another landmark day when taking the conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle under Ellis Collier, who was riding his first winner.
The seven-year-old, who was sent off at 25-1, was Collier's first ride as a conditional after joining the trainer's yard two years ago, and Williams praised Uno Mas for guiding yet another young jockey to success.
"I'm delighted," Williams said. "The horse may not be the force he once was but he's a lovely little horse to have in the yard to give the younger boys a ride. He was the first Cheltenham winner for us and for Jack [Tudor], and the horse taught him so much when he first started out.
"Ellis works hard in the yard so it was great to repay him. He's in feeding every morning at 6am and it's his first ride as a conditional.
"You've got to pick your horses for young riders. Uno Mas was a great horse for Jack and hopefully he can do the same for Ellis now."
Williams enjoyed success with both his runners at the track, with Goldencard scoring for Tudor in an eventful first division of the novice handicap chase which saw joint-favourite Richie Valentine crash through the rails to unseat Chris Ward after the 11th fence when going comfortably.
500 up for Cobden
Harry Cobden recorded his 500th domestic winner when Vision Des Flos landed the 2m4f handicap chase.
The 22-year-old jockey held off a challenge from Zoffee on the Grade 2 winner, who was ending an 11-race losing streak stretching back to January last year.
