Lacey gets the drift as avalanche of money arrives for winner Alberto's Dream

Anyone joining in the wholesale gamble on Alberto’s Dream in the 2m7½f handicap chase should send some of their winnings to trainer Tom Lacey and his staff after they spent Sunday clearing the local roads to make sure the nine-year-old could make the trip from Herefordshire to Surrey.

The 11-2 available in places this morning about Alberto's Dream, having his first outing for Lacey, soon disappeared and he was returned a heavily-punted 13-8 favourite on course. He travelled really well for Alan Johns and comfortably saw off Black Narcissus.

Lacey said: “We had 12-foot snow-drifts across the roads near the yard and they had to be cleared before there was any chance of the horse being able to travel, but we managed it. It was the worst weather I can remember – it was savage.”
