La Rav lands gamble to provide stable with first success for 537 days
Tuesday: Lingfield
Trainer Lee Carter ended a barren spell and orchestrated a successful gamble in the process as La Rav gave the stable its first win for 537 days.
Kaiya Fraser coolly bided his time before sending his mount ahead close home to thwart Dark Kris’s bold attempt to make all in the mile apprentice handicap.
La Rav had been the subject of steady support and was sent off the 11-4 favourite, having been available at 10-1 overnight.
Carter was not letting on whether he was involved in the gamble and said: “That’s not something we talk about, but he was unlucky in the race before last at Kempton and he ran away with his jockey last time.
“He’s well-handicapped and he looked to have a good chance. That’s the first time we have used Kaiya and he gave him an excellent ride.
“We’ve had a nasty virus and it’s good to get back to winning ways. We’ve been a bit unlucky recently and the horses are running well now. I’ve got 12 or 13 to run on the all-weather and I’m hopeful of a few more winners before the year is out.”
Stan Moore has his team in good shape and the trainer saddled Raintown to prevail by a neck in the mile maiden.
“He’s still a bit raw and green and he’s one to look forward to,” said Moore. “He should certainly get further. This looked a decent race so I hope the form will work out well.”
