Knight rides to first win to keep Murphy and Quinlan on a roll on Town Moor

They were happy just to be racing for the first time since October at Doncaster where Mercian Knight carried the Kalashnikov colours to a game victory over old rival Terrierman in the 3m½f novice hurdle.

A day after partnering a winner for Amy Murphy at Warwick, Jack Quinlan earned his fee again when forcing the promising five-year-old to a first win at the third attempt.

The victory was extra special for Newmarket trainer Murphy's father Paul, owner-breeder of the winner, as Mercian Knight is the first offspring of his own mare Carole's Dream to hit the track.
